Unlocking Daily Progress for the Underbanked

M-KOPA

M-KOPA agent handing a phone to a customer in Africa

M-KOPA is an African fintech committed to democratising access to essential financing, serving over 5 million customers across Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa.

The challenge

M-KOPA was scaling rapidly across five African markets with a fragmented product experience and no established design function. The product needed a unified vision and a team capable of delivering it.

Value added

Built and led the design and research team from the ground up, introducing a discovery process that was adopted across the entire product function of over 100 people. Beyond execution, I defined the product vision, design strategy and roadmap while owning the end-to-end experience for customers and field agents across Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. We bridged the gap between business goals and meaningful user outcomes for a largely underbanked audience. As we were improving the engagement and were aiming to increase customers financial and digital literacy, we worked together with the Learn.ink team. Please find below some of the results of the numbers and the digital products we worked on.
